This month we are set to discuss one of my favorite books of 2020, THE VANISHING HALF by Brit Bennett. There are so many reasons this was a favorite. Bennett’s writing style is relatable and fresh. Her story grabs your attention from the start.
It is the story of two sisters. One lives with her black daughter in the same southern town she grew up. The other sister passes for white, and her white husband knows nothing of her past. They live miles apart but they can not avoid when their lives will intersect in the next generation.

There is a documentary called LITTLE WHITE LIES available on Kanopy streaming service (free to Bexar County residents at Bibliotech.com) It gives a more contemporary perspective of growing up not knowing your ethnic background. I believe you can also rent it on Apple or AmazonPrimeVideo. Here is the trailer.
Another books by Brit Bennett- THE MOTHERS. I’ve read this one and also highly recommend it.
